November 25, 2005 Samara, Russia PRESS RELEASE ON NOVEMBER 25 THE PROGRESSIVE YOUTH UNION RALLIED AT SAMARA REGIONAL PARLIAMENT TOGETHER WITH ITS ALLIES IN DEMOCRATIC COALITION The piquet was arranged to remonstrate against the effective w.e.f. November 17 amendments to the administrative law introducing the curfew from 22 till 06 hours for people under 14. Alexander Andreev (the Progressive Youth Union), Pavel Kravcov (Yabloko) and Ludmila Kuzmina spoke at the piquet. More than 40 activists gathered including well-known young leaders, DJs and human rights activists. "We believe that the limitation of people's freedom of move and introduction of penalties in the situation simply cannot reduce crime rates, drugs or alcohol abuse and other antisocial effects. These social problems should be solved with specially developed target programs, efficient work of governmental authorities responsible for children and youth, militia, as well as the improvement of social and economic conditions of life, education and family well-being of citizens." - the Union Leader stated.
